A Heritage Tour in Old Homs: Rediscovering Landmarks and the City’s Memory
With growing interest in Homs’ heritage and historical memory, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) organized a heritage tour in Old Homs to introduce the public to the city’s historic sites and highlight architectural structures that carry the essence of past eras
Participants visited landmarks such as the Homs Citadel, an ancient fortress considered one of the city’s most prominent heritage sites, along with religious and heritage landmarks like the Al-Atassi Mosque, which forms part of the city’s architectural identity
The tour allowed residents and visitors to reconnect with Old Homs’ memory spanning multiple eras—from the Roman period to Islamic times and the Ottoman era. Such events serve as educational and cultural tools, particularly for younger generations, ensuring the transfer of historical knowledge and fostering a sense of belonging to local heritage
By documenting and showcasing these sites, the tour brings the voices and places of the past to life, making Homs’ memory vibrant and renewed rather than merely a relic of history
