The Syrian Youth Development Association in the city of Al‑Qusayr, rural Homs, launched the first “Story of Hope Crochet and Handicrafts Exhibition”, organized by the Handicrafts Department with the participation of talented women showcasing a variety of handmade creations. The exhibition highlights women’s skills in crafting woolen pieces and artistic handicrafts, while promoting handicrafts as a sustainable source of income.

A Platform Showcasing Local Women’s Creativity

Held over three days at the association’s headquarters, the exhibition features a wide range of handmade clothing, accessories, and wool‑based artwork. These pieces reflect the artistic abilities of local women and provide them with an opportunity to present and market their creations within a supportive environment.

Specialized Training and Economic Empowerment

Wafaa Jomaa, supervisor of the Handicrafts Department, explained that preparations for the exhibition began four months ago through specialized crochet training courses targeting women of various ages. She emphasized that the initiative aims to economically empower women and improve their living conditions, noting that all exhibition proceeds will go directly to the participants.

Collaboration That Creates Real Opportunities

Crochet instructor Wafaa Idris highlighted that the exhibition is the result of cooperation among women united by a shared goal: strengthening women’s roles and providing real opportunities to market their products. She described the initiative as a meaningful step toward supporting small home‑based businesses.

Success Stories Born from Simple Skills

Participant Malak Al‑Jomaa shared her experience, explaining that she learned satin‑flower design during the training course, which enabled her to launch her own small project. This project has provided her with a stable income, boosted her confidence, and improved her quality of life—an example of how vocational training can transform women’s lives.

A Step Toward Supporting Small Businesses and Women’s Empowerment

The “Story of Hope” exhibition represents an important step in supporting small home‑based enterprises and offering women and young girls the chance to learn new professional skills that ensure sustainable income. It also strengthens their role in community development and highlights the importance of handicrafts as part of the local economy and a tool for women’s empowerment.
